Old Winter by iKiska Old Winter by iKiska
Fuck this, I'm out :grump:

One of those pictures that stayed unfinished for WAY too long, despite me working on it pretty often

It's just winter. Uh. As in to go along with my autumn picture: [link] I'm thinking of re-naming the autumn picture, since once I started winter I thought of a mini back-story for the seasons and autumn's title is boring anyway. Don't get me wrong, winter's is boring too, but it at least ties in. Somewhat.

The "story" basically is that winter is the oldest season, the one that has been around since forever, and one day her overambitious frost began to wear on the nerves of whatever else was nearby. Eventually spring and summer came along and tried to destroy winter and give the world constant warmth and growth and joy and shit.

Anyway winter didn't like that and came up with autumn, the youngest season, and created an unbreakable law that would end spring and summer's ruling every year to give way to autumn, who would give way to winter.

The end.

So for the picture itself, I didn't want too much of a "Christmas" theme. I just wanted winter. So the silver bells are sort of cheating that somewhat... it used to be a red ornament, but the silver bells was more all-around winter and less just-Christmas. If that makes sense.

And I wanted each season (someday spring and summer will be done) to have its own animal, hence autumn's crow and winter's snow hare. I'm still not completely decided on spring and summer's animals... suggestions? :la:

Also I wish I liked the bunny more. Pfft. He looks like his fur is lamb fur

Right then, I'm going to see what everyone's doing in the kitchen and wait for friends to return, you guys go do that thing that you do

Quite amazing. Good works takes time and sometimes the 'best work' usually don't get finished because it's beyond what humans can manage to make time for and you know the rest...

The winter version! :la: It's so pretty I can't decide which one I like best D:

Before I sound like a total weirdo stalker, I moved from ~XocolatlDiscoRoses47 lol. If you still think I'm a total creeper that's cool  That heart does not help my case.

The coloring and detailing is a amazing, especially on the snowflake, bells and icicles off the tree :) Also, FLUFFY BUNNY IS SOOO CUTEEEEEEEEEEEE  Very creepy eyes she's got, but very beautiful at the same time as well. As usual, the folding in the cloth makes me jealous of how well you do it, and it looks very well shaded. I like the red accents in the picture and how her skin contrasts against the light colors. It really draws my attention to her. Lovely job on the picture overall :)

And aaaawh I love your comments <3 Always awesome to read before I trudge through the nonexistent snow (it may as well be snowing, it's COLD) to my early class over a mile away before trudging back up here before trudging back down there at three :lol: CURSE THE LAZINESS WHY CAN'T I FLY ;_;

Also I got no sleep last night. Hence this reply C:

The colouring is wonderful - The folds and wrinkles on the cloth are really nicely done...
i also like how you made it seem calm, yet somewhat sinister - lovely job :D

Spring ought to have a lamb or a baby chick or some other adorable baby creature. Because rebirth and all that jazz.

I really wanted to do a lamb, but that'd be like huge to fit in the picture... unless spring's picture will be "zoomed out" a bit. I'd do a chick easily except that autumn already has a bird. I also thought of rabbits but BAM, SNOW HARE.

I think I like lambs for spring. I WILL MAKE IT WORK :eager:

This looks great! I love it! Also like the 'story' behind them all :p

Sadly I can't think of any good animals for summer/spring.. :XD: Summer always makes me think of the beach which in turn makes me think of sea creatures! Buuut that wouldn't work very well. One suggestion I DO have though is using Peonies for either Spring/Summer. The bloom late Spring early Summer and don't last too long.

Thanks! I love reading stories and stuff behind pictures, so I'm glad that when I add a story to mine, other people appreciate it too <3

Ooh, I love peonies :eager: Thanks for the suggestions!

YOUR ICON :ohnoes: AWESOME.

Patience is easier to maintain, apparently, when you only work on a picture for about an hour (or less) every time you open it. Of course that wasn't exactly my choice, as whenever I start painting it seems I have to be someplace, but it did keep this picture fresh for the most part :)

I know right!:la: It's one of ~angelishi's!

I always have the bad habit of not being able to quit something until I've either finished it or made myself completely sick of it. So many portraits had been scrapped because I worked for too long and couldn't stand to look at someone's face.
