Things Fall Apart by iKiska Things Fall Apart by iKiska
jesus god, jeremy, katey's uploading an art! :eager:

and sweet lawd do my hands hurt... i've been painting this off and on for like two weeks -- and by "two weeks" i basically mean the first half of the week that started two weeks ago. then i started writing a new story and no painting of any sort got done, and then tonight i finished it C:

i'm actually pretty proud -- i didn't get lazy or go "screw this" once during this process! the feathers are so screwed up though that you might think i did... i started on one side and by the time i got to the other i realized how much i freestyled it  aw well, i like it :aww:

with all due respect, i'd like to request NO critique on this... right now i love it but i'm tired of working on it  i'll probably edit on my own the more i start to hate it, but for now, let me bask in "i like this painting"-ness :la:

while we're here, wish my mommy a happy birthday :eager: and wish me one for next monday... nineteen, damn. i'm so old :ohnoes:

sweet jesus i almost forgot this part :ohnoes: the inspiration/reference for this painting is actually thanks to the SUPER cool photo taken by ~moiaaron, who has also had a birthday recently. so go wish him a happy late birthday, and check out his photo :) --> [link]žion=&q=mr+kuku#/dvl5em

i think that's about it, anyway... time to SLEEP. three am now, and have to be up early tomorrow to go to town for the first time in like two months -- my mom and i are treating ourselves to a day out, since it's our birthdays :la:

PS: called "things fall apart" because when i painted this i thought of the book's main character, okonkwo. i LOVE that book, love it love it, even though the ending's a fucking kill-joy :ohnoes: i highly recommend it though :)

and i seem to have written a long artist's comment, so... put a muthafuckin' STAR in yo' comment if you actually read all this <3

Dear Ikiska, am stunned at your work. I found this while looking for a perfect picture for Okonkwo in things fall apart. Am almost teary at the emotions it evokes being from that part of Nigeria where things fall apart is set. This is beyond beautiful. I am a columnist for a national newspaper and I have a blog that runs concurrently. It started just 2weeks ago. Its tagged Fiction&Development. You can check it at [link] . This week on the blog, I will be posting on the character of Okonkwo as a model for masculinity. I would be grateful if you can permit me to use this picture with full acknowledgement to you. I would only use if on the blog if you permit.

This is fantastic!! I Love the meticulous and life-like detail in the lips and feathers, the hair on his face, and the different shades and tones and shine on his face! it seems so real and it's facinating too. I feel like you could meet this man.

You could meet this man! :la: It's based off a photo another person on here took, and I loved it so much I HAD to try and paint it... I still really like how it turned out too (I quickly begin to hate all my paintings, usually, so me still liking this is rare), so I always like hearing that other people enjoy this as well

I just read the book in my english class. I had never heard it before, but I really enjoyed it. My teacher wanted us to do a study guide and she ruined the ending. I was so mad! Well anyways this is a great potrayal of okonkwo!

It's fabulous! Don't change it. Ever. He's caught in a moment. We don't know what he's seen or why he has that expression. Your painting is a warrior frozen in a moment in time. Going to collect him. :)

BAH i love your comment  in moiaaron's original photo i think he was just posing... but it sure looks like he's just seen something terrible -- maybe something about to end his life forever :ohnoes: i love looking at this painting... reminds me of what i can do when i don't say "fuck it" and submit stuff half-finished :)

thanks so much!

I know how you feel. I tend to hover over the delete button. I have been told to just take a break, eat lots of chocolate and the destructive moment will pass. It doesn't always but still, don't change this fab picture. I love it. I'd like to think he has seen one of his ancestors as this is so important to African warriors.:)

oh GOD, i love my mother SO much, but i can't handle it when she suggests i just take a break for awhile  i need to finish my portfolio for uni, damn it! i need to turn out AMAZING stuff! STRESS STRESS STRESS.

oh lawd, i'm excited for the next painting i have planned... was going to start it tonight, except we've been on the road ALL DAY to wales and back (and i threw up in the wilderness, putting us behind by twenty minutes!), and to top it off, last night i did not sleep a WINK. so so tired... why am i online?

next painting, though, starting tomorrow, is going to be another african-tribal-style painting :) this time of two sisters, a little girl and an older teenager, dressed in tribal attire. browns, dark reds, oranges/golds, and light blues all the way! :la:

Okay as I am what is known as an old fart I will stand by your mother and hope you don't overheat in your artistic frenzies. I used to overheat in mine but somehow things calm down as the years go by. I am still volcanic but compared to a while ago I only explode on special occasions. My uni portfolio was of nudes and various organic and man made objects and had to be in pencil and there was no digital, so when it's traditional it's very scary and you can't push the back button.

I wish you the very best. And good luck too with the new tribal painting. As I live in Africa I am keen to see it. Hey, I'll put you on watch so I can't miss it. :D
